Score 93/100 · Drink 2014-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2012

The 2008 Barolo Ginestra wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and richness, all while retaining the essential mid-weight personality for the year. Mocha, espresso, spices, licorice and plums are some of the aromas and flavors that jump from the glass in this deep, beautifully articulated wine. The French oak is much better integrated than in the past. A round, supple finish makes the 2008 surprisingly approachable, even at this early stage.

Blackish crimson. Peppermint nose with some dried herbs. Sweet start. Really rather brutal. As though informed by ‘modern red wine’ rather than a Barolo vineyard. Not my cup of tea but it certainly delivers ripe fruit. (JR)

The 2008 Barolo Ginestra shows the muscle and power of this great vineyard. Dark fruit, mocha, spices, menthol and new leather are all woven together in a rich fabric of notable class and pedigree. The intensity of the fruit carries through nicely to the sculpted finish. Conterno's 2008 Ginestra is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine.
