Score 89/100 · Drink 2001-2011, Robert Parker, Apr 2001

A seductive, dark ruby/plum-colored effort, the 1998 exhibits a viscous texture, rich, spicy, berry fruit, and abundant quantities of plums as well as cherries. Medium to full-bodied, it is best drunk over the next 8-10 years. This offering, a sleeper of the vintage, is an intensely fruity, fleshy, savory, opulent St.-Emilion that will not make old bones, but deliver immense gratification. Moreover, La Clotte is normally a very good value.
