Camigliano's deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gualto is made in a soft, supple style that doesn't sacrifice power. Super-ripe fruit, smoke, vanilla and toasted oak all flow from the glass with outstanding length and terrific balance. A lingering note of sweetness frames the finish. This doesn't look to be a long ager, but it is delicious today.

Enveloping warmth and some tar. A spike of fruit and rather young-vine character. Real light and slightly green. Pleasant enough drinking but not really outstanding Brunello di Montalcino Riserva quality. (JR)
