Owned by Christian Moueix, La Grave a Pomerol exhibits a character similar to Petrus, although never the mass, concentration, or power of that great estate. One of my friends once referred to it, accurately, as “Petrus for the poor.” The sexy, up-front, deliciously drinkable 2001 reveals abundant amounts of cherry fruit along with hints of balsam wood, spice, cedar, and dried herbs. Lush, elegant, and pure, it should be consumed over the next 6-7 years.

Full red. Roasted cherry, raspberry and smoky, spicy oak on the nose. Fat, pliant and forward, with sweet, vinous flavors of red cherry and plum. Finishes with rather soft but slightly drying tannins and a hint of roasted oak.
Slightly smudgy nose. Sweet and then insistent on the palate. Lots of furry tannins. I'd like to see more finely etched flavours. Hints of coffee. Well mannered. (JR)
Red-ruby. Aromas of nutty, spicy oak, smoke and game; not currently showing much primary fruit. Soft and silky, with slightly green flavors and decent length. The dusty tannins betray a faint green edge.
