Deep ruby. Powerful, oak-influenced aromas of raspberry and strawberry preserves, with a strong coconut accent. Deep and lush, the red berry flavors almost sweet, with sexy notes of baking spices and vanilla adding appeal. A very deep, impressively concentrated Rioja with a bright, energetic finish. Delicious if oaky.

The 2001 Rioja Reserva spent 18 months in both new and used American and French barrels. It reveals a Graves-like bouquet of smoked herbs, scorched earth, sweet kirsch liqueur, and a hint of white chocolate. This stunning, medium to full-bodied, fleshy, rich, realistically priced Rioja should drink well for 5-7 years.
