Tasting notes
(tasted in New York): Medium-deep red with a hint of amber at the rim. Rather wild aromas of peppery spices, brambly berries, woodsmoke and underbrush. Silky on entry, then more peppery in the middle, even a bit tart-edged, showing good intensity to its flavors of red berries, leather and mushroomy underbrush. Finishes with dusty, slightly drying tannins. Nicely concentrated wine if a bit rustic.

Good deep red-ruby. Sappy black fruits on the nose, lifted by orange peel, flowers, minerals and white pepper. The sweetest and most penetrating of this superb set of 2002s; almost painfully firm today owing to its strong acidity but not at all hard. Wonderfully sappy, powerful wine, most impressive today on the vibrant, unflagging, palate-staining finish. A great Savigny in the making.
