Tasting notes
Intensely scented of fresh grapefruit, passion fruit and green mango with an undercurrent of mown grass, asparagus and capsicum, the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc is medium-bodied with a great concentration of both tropical and vegetal flavors, a lively line of acidity and a good, long finish. Drink it now to 2016. Importer: Vintus Wines, New York, NY; tel. (914) 769-3000; www.vintuswines.com

A note of reduction blew off to reveal wild, musky scents of pineapple, grapefruit, gooseberry, pepper and dusty stone. Rich, tactile and a bit reduced, showing a chewy texture to the flavors of gooseberry, green tropical fruits, lemon and fresh herbs. Finishes thick, classically dry and long. Very rich and serious sauvignon blanc--and most impressive for the vintage.
Watery white with green cast. Pungent mix of passion fruit, greengage, green fig and asparagus. On the palate, intense but not OTT – lively, dry and much cleaner and more citrusy than I expected. Good concentration. Capsicum on the palate and well made in classic Marlborough style. Mercifully dry. (JH)
