Drunk at home, the 1947 La Conseillante is a striking wine. Wafting from the glass with captivating aromas of sweet berries, pipe tobacco, red fruit preserves, vine smoke, black truffle and subtle hints of balsamic vinegar that show the vintage's signature, it's full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a fleshy, textural attack and a layered, succulent mid-palate framed by melted tannins and mouthwatering acids. Concluding with a long, sapid finish, it's an irresistibly sensual Pomerol.
I would argue that the most exciting wines of the twentieth century are the 1947 Pomerols. Although the 1947s from Petrus and Lafleur (both perfect wines) were not included in the Rodenstock tasting, the wines tasted exemplify the number of exhilarating, decadent, and sumptuous wines produced by this tiny appellation. About the producer
Château la Conseillante was built in 1750 and named after the proprietor, Libourne business woman Catherine Conseillan. The reputation of the wines quickly grew and her wines became some of the most expensive in the region.
