One of the surprises in tasting, the 1974 Barbaresco Santo Stefano has aged brilliantly. The 1974 doesn’t have the pedigree of the Red Labels that surround it, but it has exceptional balance and tons of personality. Perhaps more importantly, it has aged gracefully to the point of being strikingly beautiful on this night. Scents of leather, tobacco and dried flowers add lovely shades of nuance throughout. What a beautiful wine this is.
