The 1999 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru from Jean-Marc Roulot is poured from magnum. Silvery in hue and showing little age, it has a precise, Puligny-like bouquet with subtle scents of dandelion and wet stone. The terroir really shines through here. The palate is very saline on the entry that gets the taste-buds flowing, just a hint of crème brûlée and lemon peel furnishing the clean and precise finish. I suspect that the larger format here renders this a little more youthful than in bottle, but it is still an outstanding Meursault from Roulot, one that has many years ahead. Tasted at Taillevent restaurant in Paris.

The stone, mineral, and floral-scented 1999 Meursault Perrieres is light to medium-bodied, focused, and elegant. This dried mineral and gravel-flavored offering is pure, flavorful, and extremely well-balanced. Projected maturity: now-2008. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel (510) 524-1524.
