2007 Meursault Les Perrieres

The 2007 Meursault les Perrieres from Dominique Lafon has a relatively extravagant bouquet that does not hold back: pralines, coconut, almond and then later a hint of creme caramel. The palate is well balanced with plenty of oak on the entry and that really is the leitmotif for this Perrieres, to such an extent that I yearn for more mineralite and Perrieres typicity to be expressed on the finish. Not a bad Meursault, but Dominique has made better Perrieres in other vintages.

(a tank sample, fined ten days ago) Knockout nose combines musky citrus peel, white flowers and grilled nuts. Offers bracing lemon, lime and stone flavors of outstanding purity, with strong minerality giving the wine uncanny energy and cut. The sugar/acid balance here is exhilarating, and the wine's resounding finish offers an almost magically light touch. This should age very slowly.

More oily, linseed and nutty spice on the nose. Firm and expressive. Rich and powerful rather than elegant. Mouthfilling and opulent. Very good but in a particular style. (JH)
