Slightly cloudy today. Grapefruits, spices and stone on the nose. Suave and fine-grained but with a strong spine of lemony acidity and minerality keeping the wine's fruit flavors under wraps today. More severe than the Genevrieres, but that's as it should be. Finishes with strong saline minerality and excellent dusty persistence.

Boillot’s 2011 Meursault Les Perrieres brings together the overt fruit of the Charmes and the equally intense minerality of the Genevrieres. The Charmes is quite big and broad-shouldered on the palate, with great power and intensity from start to finish. I especially like the way the aromas and flavors find an extra gear of focus on the pointed, nuanced finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. (Not yet released) Henri Boillot recently finished his move to a new modern cellar in Champ Lins, one of the industrial sections of Meursault. Boillot describes his 2011s as having a bit more richness and better balance of fruit and acidity than the 2010s. Based on what I tasted, it’s hard to argue that point. Boillot seems to be one case where the 2011s have the potential to be better across the board than the 2010s. As is often the case here, the village wines are particularly strong. A pungent nose of very strong mineral reduction, rose petal and spice hints serves as a flourishing introduction to the stunningly intense middle weight flavors that seem to be extracted directly from liquid rock. This is classy but overtly austere; indeed this is borderline severe wine that delivers grand cru depth and length. That said, I wouldn't recommend buying this without having an express intention to cellar it for up to a decade as it's going to need it to flesh out. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2019+
