FINE+RARE, Apr 2023
Only made in the best years, Cuvée des Enchanteleurs is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards. This 1989 has been quietly maturing in the Henriot cellars since disgorgement (so is not a late-disgorged release), and has remarkable vibrance for a wine that is approaching its 25th birthday. Notes of fresh mushroom and marine floor open up into honeyed, caramel and praline notes. The fine mousse remains persistent still, with a core of rich peach fruit. There’s a savoury intensity to the wine, with scented spice notes – clove and cinnamon, as well as candied orange peel, grilled brioche and smoky, mineral layers. It’s delicious mature Champagne at its finest.
