Score 18.5/20 · Drink 2002-2010, Jancis Robinson MW, Dec 2002

Still some lemon notes. Lovely, fully mature, tight-knit bready nose with a hint of mushrooms. Quite savoury. Sensational spread of flavours on the palate. This is far too subtle to be served as an aperitif! A wine to savour. It may not be the biggest, but it is utterly charming. Great length and depth. Definitely ready. This was the bottle that was emptied most rapidly after the tasting by the tasters, most of whom clearly preferred this as a drink to the majestic 1959 and the miraculously preserved 1928. Disgorged 15 months earlier. (JR)
