Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Slightly deeper in color, Antoine Jobard’s Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2011 has a rather anonymous bouquet that is clean and pure, but lacks personality and does not really translate the terroir. The palate is clean and fresh with good acidity and again, a slight salinity that freshens that mouth. The acidity is well judged and there is a pleasant waxiness on the finish. But it does not engage like Bouzereau’s Meursault Charmes

Jobard's 2011 Meursault Charmes comes across as a bit shy. The flavors are beautifully layered in classic Charmes style, but the wine is not fully expressive, perhaps because I tasted it from tank just prior to bottling. White peaches, gentle spices and flowers emerge with reluctance. Antoine Jobard adds that this parcel was harvested 115 days after flowering, long by any standard.
