1978 Angelus

The 1978 Angélus was made by the father of Hubert de Boüard in an era where quality was very inconsistent. This is now fatigued on the nose and rather musty and green. It soon fades in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft, muffled and rather formless shape, notes of red cherry and dark chocolate but very simple and lacking vigour on the rather hollow finish. Bottles ought to have been consumed many years ago. Tasted blind at Domaine de Chevalier.

A typical pre-1981 L'Angelus, the 1978 is light, fully mature, and beginning to exhibit plenty of brown in the color and lose its fruit. Pleasant and charming in a light, picnic sort of style. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 3/83.
