Score 93/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Feb 2013

The 2009 Dominio de Atauta comes from 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines in Valle de Atauta and is aged in 35% new French oak for 16 months. It has a tightly wound, perhaps slightly reticent bouquet that you feel will offer more five to seven years down the line. The palate is silky smooth with seamless tannins and beautifully assimilated oak. It is primal and a little surly on the finish, but should blossom with five years in bottle. This is excellent. Drink 2015-2025. Importer: Aviva Vino, New York, NY; tel. (212) 244-4495.

Bright purple. Complex, expressive aromas of black raspberry, violet and incense, with sexy oak spice notes. Ripe, intensely flavored and bright, with well integrated acidity and a smoky nuance to the dark berry flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with resonating spiciness and supple tannins that fade into the fruit.
