Score 88/100 · Drink 2014-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2014

The 2011 Bourgogne wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure resonance. This is a decidedly plush, open Bourgogne with tons of near-term appeal. Blue and black fruit, smoke, cloves and licorice all jump from the glass. The 2011 loses a bit of persistence on the finish, but that is a relatively small critique for a wine that delivers this much immediacy and pure pleasure.

The 2011 Bourgogne Rouge offers crisp leafy black fruits on the tertiary bouquet that is well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a sinewy opening – chewy black fruit with a touch of spice on the bullish finish. This is a little austere at the moment and probably deserves another year in bottle. Drink 2015-2019. Having tasted through her excellent 2012s, Sylvie invited me a run through her 2011s that had been bottled in April 2013. Importer: Louis/Dressner Selections, New York, NY; tel. A ripe and distinctly earthy nose of cool dark berry fruit leads to relatively concentrated and quite serious medium weight flavors that terminate in a rustic but impressively complex finish for a wine of this level. This is one to consider. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2015+
