Score 87-89/100 · Drink 2013-2017, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2011

The 2009 Bourgogne is a pretty, elegant wine with perfumed fruit and an understated personality. Flowers, mint and crushed berries linger on the soft finish. The Bourgogne is made from parcels in Chambolle and Nuits (estate) and Volnay (purchased fruit). Tasted from tank.

Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017. Hubert Lignier started harvesting on September 11. The fruit was 100% destemmed. Vinification started with a few days of cold maceration followed by fermentation, with one or two punchdowns a day. The village level wines saw 20-25% new oak (some of the barrels were slightly larger 350-liter casks), while the estate used approximately 33% and 50% new barrels for the 1er Crus and Grand Crus respectively. Mid crimson. Firm and well sculpted but a bit harsh and drying. Sour finish. (JR)
