Tasting notes
I hadn’t tasted the 1995 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie in several years, so I was delighted to find it beginning to hit its stride. It opens with a complex bouquet of white truffle, spices, quince and dried grapes. Full-bodied, dense and concentrated, it displays a pure, seamless texture with perfectly integrated sweetness, culminating in a long, ethereal and seemingly endless finish. As always with this cuvée, the mineral backbone and saline finale are superb. This is an exceptional showing from one of Huet’s most powerful terroirs. Residual sugar: 78 grams per liter.

Primary fruit has gone now, leaving an almost bitter citric note and a musty, caramelised character. Still totally drinkable, but I wouldn't want this to lose any more fruit. (RH)
RS 78 g/l. Still youthful gold, lemon, barrel-fermentation smoothness of texture – apparently the result of passerillage! Lovely, very very rich and lively but unforced. Slightly astringent. (JR)
