The 1994 Tokay-Pinot Gris Vieille Vigne is a sensationally rich, full-bodied, unctuously-textured wine with plenty of honeyed fruit and butter, surprisingly crisp acidity, mouthfilling levels of glycerin and alcohol, and a blockbuster finish. Although it will overwhelm many dishes, it would be wonderful with foie gras or lobster. Yields were 25 hectoliters per hectare (just under 2 tons per acre), and only 150 cases were sold to America. With respect to the recently released wines, Olivier Humbrecht stated that he had never seen such intensely ripe Pinot Gris with such high levels of acidity.
