Score 91/100 · Drink 2022-2034, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Jun 2022

Deep ruby red, this has held the line over the past 17 years, still showcasing sweet charred oak on the nose and even a touch of reduction that needs time in the glass to clear. You feel the oak infuence, as is often the case with this wine, but it tastes younger than its years, and has full-fruited charm. Impressive, silky texture, plenty to enjoy here. Clearly shows that, although Boyd Cantenac doesn't always live up to its 3rd Growth billing, it really can deliver with the right vintage and some bottle ageing. Harvest September 26 to October 21.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Lifted nose. Big and round and evolved on the palate. Not that ambitious but a very nice wine to enjoy already. (JR)

Dark but with refreshing slightly toasty aroma. Very lively even if slightly marked acidity on the finish. (JR)
