A savoury, meaty nose with a nice cocoa and dark cherry character. The abundant spicy fruit could almost be southern Rhone in style. Chateauneuf du Cos??

The 2011 Pagodes de Cos is a medium-bodied, elegant 2011 that’s drinking nicely today. Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, aged 30-50% new barrels, it’s impressive bouquet of cassis, weedy tobacco, licorice and sandalwood is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless 2011 that will keep for another 7-8 years.

Rather raw on the nose but certainly fresh and direct aromatically. On the palate initially there was quite a bit of flesh (Merlot flesh?) but then it lost freshness in the glass and the whole thing seemed a bit tired. Good dish with it though – pork cheeks with crackling at Medlar, London. (JR)

Lively sweet cassis aroma. Chewy yet juicy, with moderate depth of fruit – just enough to fill the structure but the middle lacks energy and it's a bit short. (JH)
