Rich, decadent but still remarkably energetic and fresh for over 50 years of age. Always a real pleasure to encounter perfect bottles of Yquem. Whilst not reputed as a great vintage, this showed just how well this famous Sauternes is capable of ageing.

Orange amber. Intense, jewelly nose. Very pure! Wonderfully mellifluous texture with an undertow of lime marmalade. Lots of intense fruit. Really very good! Just slightly lighter than the 1967. But a real pleasure. (JR)
The 1966 is a very good wine, but for Yquem it is mediocre. Not nearly as rich and intense as one would expect, this wine is still big, a trifle clumsy, and too oaky, but enjoyable. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000. Last tasted, 1/82.
About the producer
The undisputed finest sweet wine in the world, Château d'Yquem is the only Premier Cru Supérieur estate in Sauternes, classified in 1855. With a long history stretching back to the Middle Ages, the château is entwined with that of the Lur-Saluces family – who remain involved today.
