Score 94/100 · Drink 2019-2034, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2012

The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin bursts from the glass with dark red fruit, violets, mint and crushed rocks. There is a sense of wildness and pure unrestrained energy that is beautiful to behold. The 2009 needs time to finds its center, but when it does everything works beautifully. Here, too, the 2009 is very closed in on itself. Layers of fruit build effortlessly to the intense, saline finish. This is another hugely promising wine from Philippe Pacalet

Good deep red. Captivating nose hints at smoke, flowers, white pepper, game and underbrush. Suave, concentrated and not a bit heavy, thanks to firm acidity for the year. But not yet as filled in or harmonious in the middle palate as the Charmes (this is a full degree lower in alcohol). Finishes with mouthcoating tannins and brisk acidity that will require aging to harmonize. Riper than the 2008 version but not as mineral-driven. This should eventually make an outstanding partner to a game dish.
