The Maume 2005 Mazis-Chambertin offers an alluring nose of licorice, mint, candied cherry and rose petals. Brightly-fruited on the palate and backed by vividly wet stone and salty mineral character, this sappy, energetic, formidably concentrated, sweetly-ripe Pinot really sticks to the gums, seeming to evince just a slight trace of finishing heat and roughness (perhaps accentuated due to residual CO2) along with its impressively stony, chalky mineral undertow.
