Score 92-95/100 · Drink 2002-2008, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2000

Produced from 60-year-old vines, the 1998 Mazis-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a tar and blackberry-scented nose. This muscular, masculine, and highly expressive wine is full-bodied, inky, and firmly structured. Massively concentrated and intense, this may be one of the rare tannic Pinot Noirs whose fruit can sustain cellaring. Projected maturity: 2002-2008+?. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800.
