Leflaive produced five barrels (125 cases) of the 1999 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles. It reveals mineral and earth aromas, as well as an outstanding, deep, focused, and concentrated personality. Liquid minerals, quartz, and pears are found in this crystalline, pure, and elegant wine. Furthermore, it possesses a long, crisp, smooth finish. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2009. Importer: Frederick Wildman & Sons, New York, NY; tel (212) 355-0700.
Intense honeysuckle fruit with a trace of spicy oak and full-bodied, slightly sweet, beautifully detailed flavors of citrus and apricots all wrapped in a surprisingly strong mineral framework. Not especially dense but impeccably balanced with impressive length and a fine, almost delicate acid structure. There is real elegance here and a certain very appealing nervosité.
