Le Boscq is the St. Estephe property of the Dourthe negociant firm. The estate's 2012 offers up an attractive mélange of graphite, smoke, gravel, cured meats, spices and black cherries, with terrific depth, intensity and persistence for the year. Best of all, this powerful, expressive St. Estephe should be a solid value.

The famous Dourthe firm produces this well-known St.-Estèphe, which often has a big chunk of Merlot in it. The 2012 Le Boscq is a dense ruby/purple wine with good flesh, ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, medium body, light tannin and a nice lusty, heady finish. This is a relatively sexy wine that will develop nicely over the next 10-12 years.

Pure, pronounced black fruit with a slight cordial character. A little dried spice note and firm but malleable tannin. A good, honest St-Estèphe. (RH)
