Tasting notes
Produced from vines planted in 1922 (the same parcel as that of Domaine Leroy), the medium to dark ruby-colored 1998 Romanee-St.-Vivant has floral, red fruit aromas. Blackberries and cherries can be found in this highly expressive, well-balanced, and elegant offering. While it possesses a firm, tannic backbone, it is covered in loads of lush fruit. Drink it over the next 8 years. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; (202) 832-9083.

Bright ruby. Deep, complex, youthfully subdued nose melds black raspberry, blueberry, kirsch, roast coffee and smoky oak. Concentrated, ripe and delineated; the dense cassis and chocolate flavors are nicely lifted by a floral nuance. Finishes with substantial but very fine tannins and sneaky persistence.
