Slim, savoury, Cabernet Sauvignon character dominant, enjoyable cassis and rosebud. A little subdued on the nose, you can see that the fruit didn't reach the same level of ripeness as in the previous two vintages, but this shows finesse, with its mouthwatering finish and gentle pulses of white pepper. Harvest September 12 to 24, so entirely within the month of September after a dry but not overly hot summer, followed by some rains in August. 60% new oak, Eric Boissenot consultant.

Light, dark and fresh. A bit dilute but at least it is not hard. Not a lot of life. (JH)

A stone’s throw from Saint-Julien, Ch. de Camensac was long underperforming, but – under the ownership of the Merlaut-Villars family – was totally restructured, and quality transformed.
