The 2008 Grand Mayne is quite strict on the nose with pencil lead and tobacco tinged black fruit, quite broody and needing more bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine line of acidity, hints of dark chocolate and even a touch of cinnamon towards the finish that fans out nicely. Gentle and caressing, this is a lovely Grand Mayne that should have another 15-20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property.

The 2008 Château Grand Mayne showed nicely, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of ripe cherries, spice box, dried herbs, and truffle. Firm and concentration on the palate, it shows the more masculine style of the vintage, has ripe tannins and has another decade or more of prime drinking.

First bottle TCA. Second bottle not clean either. Stinky nose and a hard finish. (JR)

A sleeper of the vintage, this impressive, full-bodied, surprisingly concentrated 2008 offers an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a glorious perfume of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, blueberry liqueur and cassis. Full-bodied and impressively broad and savory with silky tannins, it is an unqualified success in the vintage. Enjoy it over the next 10-15 years.
