Score 90/100 · Drink 2021-2038, Neal Martin, May 2021

The 2006 Grand Mayne is a wine that Jean-Antoine Nony had a hard time being proud of until the last three years. It has a high-toned mint-fresh bouquet that just feels a little forced compared to the 2005. The palate is quite sinewy for a 2006, grippy with bold tannins. It does not offer the complexity of the 2005 or perhaps the nuance and charm of the 2004, quite backward towards the finish. Give it another three or four years in bottle. A broody bugger! Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property.

Toasty nose and then very lively and punchy and direct. Some pretty insistent dry tannins but fresh fruit at least. Will probably always be a bit severe. Many thought it was overextracted. (JR)

Attractive, chunky, full-bodied, and generously endowed, but lacking in complexity, this deep, richly fruity wine offers up plenty of red and black fruits, earth, graphite, and spice box. The sweet tannins and seductive richness of the fruit suggest drinking this over the next decade.
