Score 15.5/20 · Drink 2005-2012, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2009

Pale fully developed rim. Rich, rather dusty nose. A bit fragile on the palate with acidity in evidence. Pretty light body and fast fade and DEFINTELY ready. (JR)

Grand Mayne has fashioned a superb 1999, with terrific concentration and a hedonistic, sexy style. This dense, purple-colored offering displays glorious levels of sweet blackberry and currant, fruit, a succulent, lush texture, full body, low acidity, and beautifully integrated wood and tannin. It offers a substantial mouthful of sumptuous St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: now-2013.

Smoky, meaty and spicy on the nose. Almost gamy. Medium- to full-bodied, with thick tannins and an earthy finish. A bit rustic, but impressive concentration for the vintage. Best after 2004. 3,750 cases made.-James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2002
