Carillon's 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet isn't a world away from the 2009 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet that I drank a few days later, offering up similar aromas of pastry cream, preserved lemon and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural and gourmand, with good balancing acids and an open-knit, friendly personality, without displaying much of the back-end mineral kick that this bottling can deliver. It's a very tasty, outgoing white Burgundy that's drinking well now.

Complex, layered nose. Good ripeness and density but relatively low acid. Really quite forward. Just a little lacking in freshness. (JR)
Pale yellow. Expressive high-toned aromas of peach, hazelnut and flowers. Fat and round, with pliant peach and leesy flavors nicely framed by mineral cut. A suave and subtle wine with very good length. "August was hot in 2009," said Carillon, "but the nights were cool and there were good water reserves in the soil."
Easy and open – a bit loose actually. Sweet and then astringent. (JR)
