Score 89/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Sep 2015

The 2008 Hermitage le Meal is a pretty, medium-bodied, elegant and ready-to-go Hermitage that gives up plenty of dried flowers, leather, dried earth and sweet dark fruits. Mid-weight, yet with good acidity and an energetic, vibrant profile, drink it over the coming decade.

Dark purple. Fresh red berries and spice cake on the nose, with complicating floral and mineral nuances that gain strength with air. Rich but energetic, with lively red fruit flavors that become sweeter in the mid-palate. Silky tannins add shape to a long, spicy, gently oak-spiced finish.

Bright purple. Youthful, pungently high-pitched aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry-vanilla, violet and pepper. Sweet and broad, with seductive oak spices and soft tannins that add grip but don't detract from the supple fruit. A nicely dense yet lively wine, with a gently firm, rising finish and lingering sweetness.
