Tasting Notes
A similar but slightly riper and much spicier nose includes blue berry and plum nuances that precede the more obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract. The extremely pure and utterly delicious finish is shaped by the dense but fine tannins that are given added energy by the perfectly integrated acid spine. This is a seriously lovely effort. (from the estate's younger vines in Musigny): Bright, deep, fresh red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, blackberry, melted licorice, roasted herbs and spices. Silky-sweet and highly concentrated, with a creamy texture supported by a solid tannic structure. The wine's lush blackberry, currant and exotic spice flavors gained in freshness with air. Finishes broad and classically dry. 90+. Mar 2012, www.vinous.com
The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru is a big step up from the Chambolle villages in this vintage. Bright red berries, flowers and spices are supported by vibrant layers of underlying minerality. I very much like the energy and focus here. The wine turns darker and richer with time in the glass. Hints of plum and black cherry linger on the structured finish. This is a 2009 that will need at least a few more years in bottle. The 1er Cru is made from young vines in Musigny. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. Apr 2012, www.robertparker.com
