The 1988 du Tertre has a clean but very light bouquet with glimmers of red fruit, undergrowth and leather. The palate has a hard entry with firm tannin, dry in the mouth with a very short finish. It is not a terrible Margaux but I think it saw better days. Tasted at the château.

The 1988 Du Tertre is a good example for the vintage. Medium deep ruby, with a curranty, smoky, oak-dominated nose, this wine continues to bear a resemblance to this chateau's excellent 1979. It will drink well young, but keep. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2003.

About the producer
Until recently owned by the Albada Jelgersma family (along with Giscours), Ch. du Tertre is one of the oldest estates in the region – with a history stretching back 1,000 years. Classified as a Fifth Growth, its 54 hectares of vines sit on high gravel outcrops in Margaux.
