Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2001 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru comes across a little volatile on the nose. Whilst the palate feels quite ripe and candied in style, it does not cohere and feels flat on the finish. I do not believe this bottle is representative. Tasted blind at the Roumier Les Cras vertical at Medlar, London.

Good full, bright red. Sweet aromas of candied griotte cherry, kirsch, and stone. Sweet, sappy and gripping, with excellent structure and strong mineral character contributing to the impression of inner-mouth energy. Vibrant red fruit flavors are lifted by herbal, peppery and floral nuances. Finishes with very firm tannins that call for five or six years of additional bottle aging.
