65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Harvested 27 September to11 October. Olivier Bernard’s first vintage. Brick colour. Mature sous-bois notes. Palate gentle and fresh with a little sweetness. Touch of acidity on the finish. Past its prime but maintains a harmony and balance. (JL)

The 1983 Domaine de Chevalier sported a touch of VA on the nose, though the cannot of been any provenance issue as this bottle was whisked up directly from the château's cellar. The aromatics seem fully mature with sandalwood, cinnamon, clove, dark berry fruit and touches of gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, crisp acidity and a slight astringency on the mid-palate. Still, a lovely pastille-like finish curiously echoes a fine Burgundy! Drinking perfectly now. Tasted blind at Olivier Bernard's "3" dinner at Domaine de Chevalier.

Olivier’s first vintage. Much paler. Tangy and flirtatious. Lime juice. Very tight and youthful. Vibrant, but hardly ready. (JR)

Relatively pale. Looks quite mature. Slightly fake sweetness/’chaptalisation’ notes to this. Though this is a very subtle shading on top of the Dom de Chev canvas. Some Graves character but a bit jagged. Very tough tannins on the finish. Drying finish. (JR)
