Score 92/100 · Drink 2002-2014, Pierre Rovani, Dec 2002

The 2001 Riesling Kabinett Urziger Wurzgarten explodes from the glass with rich aromas of acacia and honeysuckle blossoms, melon, and pears. On the palate, quartz, spices, minerals, and quinine are displayed with crystalline purity. The wine is powerful, focused, lush, and medium-bodied. This superb wine should be drunk over the next dozen years. Importer: Terry Theise Estate Selections, imported by Michael Skurnik Wines, Inc., Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300

Big, broad and massive. This is a prime example of a wine that technically could qualify as a Spätlese being sold as a Kabinett, made from vines leased on contract to Mönchhof. (JR)
