Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Les Grandes Murailles showed so well out of barrel and it fulfills that promise now ten years on with a comely bouquet, gently wafting with cranberry and wild strawberry scents, vanilla pod and just a hint of undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, fully mature and quite earthy, almost Burgundy-like, although the tobacco and singed leather note betrays its origin on the finish. This is well worth seeking out. Tasted January 2016.

Mid crimson. Attractive warm scent with seductive ripeness. Sweet start and some smoothness of texture until the dry tannins on the end. Rather awkward finish. Quite a bit of maturity but I think the tannins are a bit dominant and probably always will be. Austere finish. (JR)

Some evolution at the rim. Direct fruit. Thick. Dense. But pretty solid and dry on the end. A bit of energy but awfully drying tannins. (JR)

Slightly overripe nose but very winning black cherry flavours. Should be pretty popular – a crowd pleaser. Fine, dry tannins. Correct and pretty typical of the wines produced this year in this appellation – splits the difference between ancient and modern. Quite painful to taste at this stage. (JR)
