For a look at how the Voge wines age, Lionel Fraisse, the estate's general manager, poured me a taste of the 2006 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines. From a vintage that's largely drinking well in both the Northern and Southern Rhône, it shows meaty, developed notes, cigar box and vanilla shadings and cassis fruit. Medium to full-bodied and silky in texture, it finishes long and mouthwatering—a lovely wine to drink over the next several years.

Inky violet color. Very sexy aromas of raspberry and blackberry preserves, with Asian spice, mineral and potpourri accents. Fleshy and sweet, offering finely etched red and dark berry flavors and an exotic violet pastille quality. Tannins gain strength on the finish, adding structure and focus to this suave wine. Show this to someone who claims that Cornas is rustic.

Dark purple. Seductively perfumed aromas of red and dark berries accented byAsian spices, smoky minerals and cured tobacco. Impressively sweet blackberry and kirsch flavors are enrobed in velvety tannins that become more firm on the close. This boasts wonderful purity and focus. By the way, Mazoyer told me that the most new oak used on any wine here is about 20%.

Another showstopper is the 2006 Cornas Vieilles Fontaines and it has a classic feel in its wild, slightly feral notes of smoked duck, licorice, wild herbs and black fruits. Big, rich, powerful and concentrated, with fine tannin still present on the finish, drink it anytime over the coming 15-20 years. eRobertParker.com.September, 2015
