(100% garnacha) Deep, vibrant ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet of strawberry and raspberry preserves, minerals, potpourri and white pepper. Tangy and sharply focused, offering pure red berry flavors and a nervy mineral underpinning. The floral quality repeats on the finish, which is smooth, seamless and very persistent. This extremely young wine should benefit from a few more years of patience.

The 2007 Pielago is 60% Garnacha and 40% Syrah aged in 300 and 500-liter French oak. Aromas of wood smoke, violets, mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry jump from the glass. Elegant and flavorful on the palate with attractive succulent fruit, this smooth-textured wine could use a bit more depth and concentration. Give it another 2-3 years in the cellar and drink it from 2011 to 2022. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565
