Fun label. Very ripe but with freshness too on the nose – attractive. Very rich and round and flattering. But natural tasting too. What's not to like? Well done! From a relatively unknown region. (JR)

The 2006 Pielago is 60% Merlot and 40% Syrah aged in 300 and 500-liter new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up aromas of pain grille, game, bacon, blueberry, and black currants. Supple-textured, intense, layered, and meaty, this full-throttle effort has superb concentration and a 60-second finish. Give it 2-3 years to unfold and drink it through 2020. Importer: unknown
