No, the 2007 Hermitage isn't a brooding blockbuster. But it's an exquisite wine, at its peak. Leather notes accent vibrant cherries and raspberries, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky and expansive. This seems to grow and grow in the glass, finishing with a sense of elegance and poise.

Very meaty and ripe on the nose. Really opulent, rich and heady – masses of ripe fruit! Super ripe – so ripe that it's actually quite difficult to see the sturdy Hermitage-ness of this wine. Very approachable. May develop a little faster than some of the more classic Hermitages, I suspect, but it's admirably ripe. Very long. (JR)
