Tasting notes
The elegant, attractive, medium-bodied 2000 red Hermitage has low acidity and ripe tannin, but not a great deal of stuffing or power. Pretty in a straightforward, sweet black cherry, licorice, herb-tinged style, it will provide enjoyment over the next 6-7 years. (I tasted the last bottling, in October of 2002) Medium ruby. Raw currant, violet, cocoa, tar and spices on the nose. Supple and fleshy, with notes of smoke and game. Less firm and powerful than the 2001, but offers good flinty lift in the middle palate. A classic expression of syrah. Aged in four- to ten-year-old barrels. Like the 2001, this was 12% natural alcohol, chaptalized to 12.5%.
