Deep, bright red; the darkest of this 2010s. Lovely floral lift to the aromas of black cherry and crushed stone. Like liquid silk on entry, then suave and harmonious in the mid-palate, with cherry, black raspberry and mineral flavors given definition by well-integrated acidity. Finishes with substantial noble tannins and outstanding length. In a distinctly more feminine style than the Cazetiers--hardly atypical for these two bottlings--but built for a slow evolution in bottle.

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin blossoms on the palate in every direction. It is at once incredibly long yet also totally spherical on the palate. Bright red fruit, freshly cut flowers and spices are all woven together gracefully, but this is really a wine of textural finesse above all else. Rich layers of fruit stain the palate on the intense, deeply satisfying finish. This is a dazzling showing from Christian Serafin.

Christian Serafin doesn’t say a lot, at least not verbally. The wines speak for him eloquently though. Serafin has turned out a lovely set of 2010s. I give the edge to 2009 for consistency across his range, but the top wines here are undoubtedly exciting. They will thrill readers who appreciated transparent, weightless Burgundies. Yields were down 20-30% on average, which is on the lower end of the spectrum within the context of the year. Serafin planned to bottle his 2010s between February and April 2012. Saturated bright red. Pure but reticent nose offers black raspberry, flowers, cinnamon and spices. Wonderfully silky and lush, but with superb inner-mouth energy contributing to an overall impression of sappiness. Hints of pepper and ineffable spices contribute lift and grip to the very long and subtle finish. There's evidence of wood tannins here, perhaps from the Francois Freres barrels used for this cuvee .
