Tasting notes
The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is round, sensual and totally seductive. Silky tannins frame a core of freshly cut roses, mint, red berries, licorice and sweet spices. Whereas the Clos de la Roche is all about power, the Charmes is pure seduction. Sweet floral notes are laced throughout the expressive finish. The Charmes is made from a parcel in Mazoyeres. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. ||I was thrilled with the wines I tasted with David Duband. The 2010s are fabulous. They show the weight, energy and transparency of the vintage. Of the 2010s, only the Morey St. Denis Clos Sorbe was too reduced to read. I also tasted a number of the 2009 grand crus, all of which have captured the potential I sensed when I tasted them from barrel. I will report on those wines in the April issue. As a reminder, many of Duband's vineyards are farmed in metayage with Francois Feuillet. Readers may find those wines under either the Domaine David Duband or Domaine Francois Feuillet labels.||Various American importers, including: Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY; tel. A highly complex, ripe and very fresh, cool and airy nose mixes a variety of red berries, underbrush and earth before dissolving seamlessly into textured, powerful and impressively precise large-scaled flavors that brim with old vine sap. The presence of the stems is evident as the tannins are very firm yet the phenolic ripeness is excellent and this also culminates in an explosive finish of outstanding balance and length. I quite like this because while it's definitely robust, it's not rustic. January 2010. www.burghound.com Drink 2025+.
