Double decanted because of deposit. Bright, healthy crimson still! Mature and intensely fragrant with real sweetness. Seriously charming but with much more backbone than many 2002s, and many red burgundies. It's already a delicious drink but there's no hurry to drink it. Sappy and energetic with, still, a little spine to it. Long and lively. A very successful red burgundy. (JR)

The 2002 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru from Dugat-Py is really beginning to hit its stride, wafting from the glass with a superb bouquet of wild blueberries, blackberry, cassis, grilled venison, juniper and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is supple and expansive, with an ample chassis of velvety tannins, a deep core of cool, vibrant fruit and incredible intensity. Served next to the 2005 Charmes, the 2002 reveals darker fruit tones and cooler acids. At age fifteen, its tannins are beginning to melt, and its new oak is very well integrated; but this remains youthful and beautifully defined.

Knockout ripe aromas of black raspberry, minerals, flowers, mocha, espresso and animal fur. Sweet and creamy, with a wonderfully fine-grained texture and impressive volume for the year. The intense, fruit-driven flavors of blackberry and cassis are given lift and vinosity by the wine's harmonious, ripe acidity. Finishes with building, ripe tannins and lovely subtle persistence.
